Tamco Marine Primers
Like our topcoats and clears, Tamco has developed ultra-high-quality foundation primers.
We offer a series of primers and sealers based on urethane, epoxy and phenolic technologies.
Urethanes
Our 5300 series primers boast a true direct to metal resin . Many others claim to be direct to metal but tell you not to apply on anything larger than the size of a quarter. Another unique attribute of this series is that has a really high build much like a polyester filler primer. However, while our build is the same, it has flexibility and won’t crack and fail like a polyester primer. It also uses an actual ISO hardener that allows it to crosslink to the substrate. The cheaper polyester primers only use MEKP which does nothing than offer a chemical reaction which is a weak point in refinishing. If that wasn’t enough the 5311 has rust encapsulation properties. It is DIRECT TO RUST.. What that means is that if you have blasted a car and it sat overnight and has flash rust can simply scuff and clean the panel and apply directly over the rust. We have actually taken this to the extreme to see how well this primer will encapsulate. Over 10 years ago we took a rusty panel and applied 5311 over it. Since that time it has been out in elements and the rust has not come back through. As said this is an extreme case and we don’t recommend going over heavy rust like this but the product has proven to withstand the torture. Another nice feature of the 5300 series primers is that they can be reduced and used as a silky-smooth sealer which allows you to use one product instead of having to buy a dedicated primer and a dedicated sealer. It is available in white, black and grey. These products were not designed to provide protection on vehicles left outside in the elements and we recommend first applying our DTA epoxy first if using on a long-term restoration.
We also make our unique MONOCOAT urethane primer and topcoat in an all in one product. This unique primer actually is a 2K urethane packaged in a 1K can! The technology here is that one you open the lids, a barrier which prevents the Catalyzation to occur in the can, evaporates and makes an indestructible coating.
Epoxies
Our DTA (direct to anything) epoxy lives up to the name. It will literally stick to anything. We have even sprayed it over cleaned glass chrome without sanding! Other than just excellent adhesion, DTA epoxy offers top notch corrosion resistance and ultra-smooth spray ability. It can be re-coated or top coated within 7 days and is ideal for long term restoration projects where the vehicle has to sit in primer for long periods of time.
Tamco HP 770 Series is a polyamide cured ultra hi-build epoxy primer that can be top- coated with any Tamco topcoat finish. It is direct to all metals,fiberglass, wood and most other products. IT IS ALSO DIRECT TO RUST!
It can also be used as a tie-coat for inorganic zinc rich coatings. It also protects the metal without top-coating for very long periods of time. Sands easy if needed. Meets SSPC-Paint 42, MPl#108 and #120. Uses: Bridges, ships,offshore marine, lighthouses,chemical plants, rail cars, or underwater as a primer for Tamco underwater topcoats
Phenolics
Our ForeverCoat is a Ready To Spray/Direct To Metal is an Industrial Fleet Sealer that has exceptionally good filling properties and provides good color holdout and fast topcoat times. It can be applied directly over properly prepared steel, galvanized, aluminum, fiberglass, SMC, base-coat, old lacquer, old cured enamel, and old polyurethane. The advantage of this sealer is that there is NO pot-life issues, and NO RECOAT period to worry about. It’s FOREVER recoat-able without sanding!
